On a cold wet, windy Monday night a few brave or rather silly souls played tennis under the lights at Fawkner Park, South Yarra. Across the road at Bistro Gitan far more sensible folk tucked in to one of the brightest new stars in Melbourne’s dining scene. And quite a few diners there were as the place was full!
The fit out is classic French bistro with papered tables and bentwood chairs, whilst the menu contains plenty of classic French dishes it also veers into neighbouring territory with plenty of Spanish and Italian influences. The eclectic wine list is predominantly European with a smattering of local wines.
Service here is very accomplished and the food is cooked and presented with confidence and great skill. Welcome Gitan, a bright new culinary addition.
